The French  and  Hollywood Movies – It’s a name changer!

Paying homage to the 87th Academy Awards Ceremony on Sunday AKA The Oscars, we have come up with our very own list of nominees for the coveted  – CRAZIEST TRANSLATION OF A HOLLYWOOD MOVIE FOR FRENCH CINEMA AWARD!

Yes folks, it’s all well and good having an Oscar ceremony for the best movies of the year, but if you’re wandering the streets of Paris looking to find that film, chances are, you probably won’t be able to recognise the title. You see, the French have this ‘inclination’, shall we say,  to change the names of blockbuster films to titles that are more suited  to French culture. Titles that will be understood by the French market.  Which is great for the French, mais oui! But for the non-French speaking, movie loving expat, it can be quite a challenge, a bit of a nightmare and a hilarious eye opening experience all at the same time.

Having looked at the most recent movies to hit our screens, MLP must admit that the original titles have been kept, for quite a few, so maybe the French film title creators, are relaxing whatever strict rules they previously had! Regardless of this,  there are still plenty of possible candidates for this Award and we need your help to choose the winners.

So, in no particular order for THE CRAZIEST TRANSLATION OF A HOLLYWOOD MOVIE FOR FRENCH CINEMA  AWARD. The nominees are…

1. The Help

La-Couleur-Des-Sentiments-Affiche

2. Despicable Me

paris cinema

3. American Hustle

american bluff

4. Cool Runnings

5. The Theory of Everything

6. Frozen

7. Focus (Out March 2015)

All of these movie titles either surprised us, confused us or made us laugh, so many clearly lost in translation, tres tres role non?

Looking forward to finding out which ones you think deserve this award!
