Overall a great experience!
Restaurant in Paris where you can drink like a Fish!
It’s always great when you receive a good recommendation about a fab eaterie in Paris and getting the heads up about this place, was no exception. The funny thing is, MLP had wandered past this very resto so many times but just hadn’t really noticed it – subsequently going months without experiencing the culinary delights that has had everyone raving and craving.
Nestled amongst little independent shops and food spots on a very busy little street in the heart of Paris St Germain, lies Fish la Boissonerie, but you could indeed be mistaken for thinking it’s called something different when you first look at the livery above the premises. Cleverly designed in mosaic, it actually looks like the word Poissonerie with the P slightly doctored to look like a B! Perhaps the eyes need testing? Nope! that definitely looks like is used to be a P! So, what’s the story?
MLP was already armed with questions before even stepping foot into the place which, incidentally was super charming. Very rustic inside with an air of traditional represented in some of the furniture this venue felt under stated. The love and representation of the name was endorsed throughout with emblems, images and artworks of les poisson displayed in abundance. Quite petite with a bar area, it was packed with mixed clientele being looked after by busy bilingual staff (yes they all spoke English too) bustling amongst the hungry customers clutching menus, notepads and bottles of wine. There were also mirrors on every wall reflecting the beautiful lamps chosen to illuminate this very intimate setting, adding just another element to the light atmosphere and buzz of the place.
First things first the varied menu is delicious. The food is beautifully presented and mouthwateringly good. Loved every single mouthful! Very difficult not to choose three courses here as the appealing concoctions of ingredients just make it so hard to say no!
There are stunning fish & meat dishes as well as vegetarian – so something for everyone! The dishes are light, perfectly cooked and compliment the array of wines on hand that you can choose to partner with your dish! That includes the desserts too!
Speaking of wines! Apparently the owners, who are good-humoured Australians, wanted to creatively get across the phrase ‘drink like a fish’ hence the reason for the duplicitous name and the merging of the B and P, Boissonerie meaning drinking haunt and Poissonerie meaning Fish Shop!
Perfect venue for a lunch with friends, an evening with your partner or as part of a night out with the girls! The location being St Germain means you can top and tail your meal with drinks at a local bar and/or a club afterwards. Yes Mama’s you can get your groove on within a stones throw of this gorgeous little resto! Also, you do not have to book in advance as Fish la Boissonerie does not take reservations and its open 7 days a week for lunch and dinner – although we imagine this doesn’t include bank holidays so best to check the website or give them a call if you are thinking about Easter! Plus you should know that they have some great deals for lunchtime like 3 courses for €29.50!
If you’ve been there we would love to know what you think and if you haven’t, please report back once you have had the experience. The staff are very welcoming and friendly. Could you take the children? Yes but we think older kids would appreciate it more as a treat!
