The undisputed top crêpes in Paris

Have you heard of  La Chandeleur? No? Me neither! So here’s the inside scoop. First of all, it’s celebrated with pancakes and secondly, the significant date for this crêpe affair is Feb 9! yes we know its March but let’s face it, in France, it’s essentially pancake day every day, and many other countries across the world celebrate Pancake Day on March 5, Shrove Tuesday!

La Chandeleur is otherwise known as Fète des Chandelles (candlelight) and it has a religious history. Specifically, it relates to when Mary presented her son Jesus, 40 days after his birth. The reference to ‘candles’  is why they are often lit and placed near a window in a church, symbolising a renewed faith. So what does this have to do with crêpes? God only knows! Some say it’s because they are round and golden like the sun, others say they represent sun and light or the impending Spring season. Whatever the reason, we don’t need one when it comes to devouring pancakes in this town – they are delicious any time of the year.

Here are the top ten crêperies in Paris as recommended by a plethora of people across the internet.
