Kids rock it out in Paris
Saturday, March 25 concert
If you don’t know about this awesome rock band workshop for kids in Paris then you should! If you’ve seen the film School of Rock, where Jack Black teaches a bunch of school kids about rock music, you’ll have a fair idea of what we mean.
In the spirit of that movie and with the knowledge that plenty of kids in this city who love music, would love to ‘rock it out.’ Strumming bass & electric guitars, playing the drums and creating foot stomping melodies on the ivory keys is what Matt Black, a US Expat and teacher in Paris, offers you with his Rock U atelier!
Built on the same premise as the movie – kids from 6 years old, teens too, flock to Matts studio near the Eiffel Tower to form bands, make music and play homage to the gods and disciples of rock n roll!
The kids are ‘instrumental’ in more ways than one. Not just playing the tunes but also choosing the songs and helping in the direction of the sound and performances.
It’s a labour of love for Matt aka the Dean of Rock! Having seen him and his team in action – his knowledge of music and commitment to these kids is impressive and MLP urges you to check out his work.
This weekend, Saturday, March 25, his merry band of kids are performing here in Paris. At no cost – you can get the chance to see the under 10’s in action and teens too – assessing whether this is the perfect platform for the little people in your life to unleash their inner Jimi Hendrix, Debbie Harry or Mick Jagger!
If they see other kids doing it, it could be the final push they need; or if they are already classically trained – it presents an opportunity to let loose and approach music from a different perspective.
It’s taking place at Belushi’s in Gare du Nord and its FREE, PAS MONNAIE? GRATUIT!!
Grades 3-8 will be performing from 6 pm until 7:30 pm. Grades 9-12 will be onstage from 8:30 pm until 11 pm.
Mama Loves Paris will be there – watching and encouraging these kids as they rock out on stage!
Come and support them and bring your kids!
Find out more on the Rock U Concert Facebook Page and to sign up your kids for the workshop go to www.rock-u.fr, it’s perfect for expats with its English-speaking teachers.

Matt Black is the 21st century’s answer to the Pied Piper. Kids of all ages adore him and he is the perfect role model for them. Whether he’s teaching them about birds and trees (he’s a science teacher too) or guitars and drums and rock history, he’s the go-to guy with whom to entrust your kids. They’ll never forget the experience of Rock U – the music, the spirit of collaboration, and working with Matt.
Well said! Love this comment – he is indeed! Love MLP
