The Paris garden reaching new heights

The Promenade Plante is the Paris garden positioned above the city. It’s 4.5km in length and starts at Bastille and ends near the Bois de Vincennes. It is a unique experience, the idea of enjoying a little floral couture at such a height (and depth) but it is such a great thing to do, especially with the kids.

Once you find the entrance on Rue de Lyon you are basically good to go. There is a lift or two located along the route too if you are unable to manage the stairs!

The stroll itself is designed to be super easy. With each section morphing into a a different style or flow of flora and fauna along the way.

There’s the inclusion of a water feature and floral arches, plus benches along the side for a moments respite! The views incidentally are wonderful from here.

As you walk, you may think you have come to the end of line but you haven’t! The Promenade Plante (aka The Coulée verte René-Dumont), takes you up and brings you down, sending you over an arched bridge covering a pretty picnic spot, past a water fountain and through a rugged tunnel.

After this there is more park life on offer, even a playground can be found along this part of the route where you are now on street level.

The kids scootered the whole way and it was relatively stress free given there were no obvious risks to letting them fly on ahead. On a day with good weather it’s totally charming and a great space to go for a run if you have the energy.

Opened in 1933, the gardens are built on the old railways tracks that carried trains from Bastille to Varenne-Saint-Maur from 1859-1969. In 1989, the City of Paris set out on a mission to transform it into what you now see today.

It’s a must for a family day out plus it’s slap bang in the trendy part of town, so it shouldn’t be too tricky to find a nice restaurant nearby.

An easy place to while away the hours with the kids in Paris.
